The car can be equipped рядным by the 4-cylinder petrol engine, the 6-cylinder petrol engine or a 4-cylinder turbodiesel. The power unit is located along the car and taken out upwards by the special crane.

4-cylinder petrol engine M43TU in volume of 1.9 l – двухклапанный, with верхнерасположенным a camshaft. The camshaft is resulted in rotation by a chain. Valves are set in motion through roller коромысло. For indemnification of vibration of the engine two balancing shaft, located under cranked shaft serve. A drive of valves – roller. Model 320i, 323i, 325i, 328i, 330i

6-cylinder petrol engine M52TU has a head of cylinders and the block of cylinders from an aluminium alloy. The alloy has the improved heat conductivity and smaller weight in comparison with pig-iron. 4-klapannaja the head of cylinders has two camshafts with a drive from a chain with the mechanism of regulation of camshafts VANOS. Thus both camshafts depending on number of turns and engine loading turn concerning a corresponding asterisk so that to receive the optimum moment of opening of valves. The knot copes from an engine monitor.

Model 320d

In 4-cylinder turbodiesel М47 two camshafts with the top arrangement have a chain drive and influence valves through roller коромысло. The second chain actuates the fuel pump of a high pressure. A drive of valves – roller. The diesel engine has a turbo-supercharging with changeable geometry of the turbine (VTG) and cooling наддуваемого air. The head of cylinders is made of an aluminium alloy. The engine is supplied oxidising каталитическим by the converter and system рециркуляции the fulfilled gases.

Model 330d

6-cylinder turbodiesel М57 is characterised by exclusively high twisting moment thanks to the general pressure head highway (common rail) a high pressure on which fuel to atomizers moves. The head of cylinders is made of an aluminium alloy. The engine is supplied oxidising каталитическим by the converter and system рециркуляции the fulfilled gases.

Greasing of engines is carried out by the oil pump which at 6-cylinder engines (320i, 323i, 328i) settles down in a forward part of the pallet crankcase and resulted in rotation by a chain from a cranked shaft. At models 316i, 318i the oil pump is located in a cover of a box of the distributive mechanism on the end of a cranked shaft and connected to it through шлицевое connection. Sucked in oil arrives through apertures and on pipelines to bearings of cranked and distributive shaft, and also to working surfaces of cylinders.

The pump of a cooling liquid is located in a forward part of the block of cylinders and resulted in rotation клиновым by a belt which simultaneously actuates auxiliary units, namely, the generator, the pump of the hydraulic booster of a wheel and the conditioner compressor.

It is necessary to mean that the system of cooling of the engine should be all-the-year-round filled by a mix from means for protection against corrosion and freezing, and also not containing известь water. The radiator fan has the electric drive. The 6-cylinder engine with the conditioner on a shaft of the pump of a cooling liquid in addition has a fan of a radiator which is connected through вязкостную муфту at the corresponding temperature. By means of so-called cooling under characteristics at petrol engines the engine control system regulates temperature of opening of the thermostat and the temperature of the engine for achievement of the minimum expense of fuel is optimised.

On all petrol engines regulation of the moment of ignition watching a detonation is applied.

The radiator electric motor can join at the idle engine and the switched off ignition. Owing to presence of a zone of thermal stagnation in an impellent compartment it can repeatedly occur. At work in an impellent compartment and the warm engine it is necessary to consider possibility of inclusion of the electrofan. A way of elimination: Расстыкуйте a socket of the electric motor of the fan. For functioning of ignition and preparation of a toplivno-air mix there is a control system not demanding service of the engine that excludes necessity of adjustment of the moment of ignition or idling within the limits of maintenance service carrying out.
